Ok so Im gonna try a zen method of meditation where you breathe in and out and count each inhale and exhale for a week.
Then for the 2nd week on count the inhales.
Then the 3rd week just be aware of the breathing without the counting.
The 4th week just sit and be empty.
I want to know before I start, (because Im afraid by the 4th week my obsessively thinking mind will still be sabotaging me)
I want to know how it works does it get you into a habit of not thinking so when you get to the 4th week you don’t have to worry about desire a chatty self sabotaging mind and loosing the stillness etc??
Because I usually get the stillness enjoy it reliably for a week then loose it again and be unable to get it back. So have to try a new meditation technique!
There are hundreds of thousands meditation techniques out there.I would go for the simplest.Observing your breathing for a while,in and out, observing your thoughts for a while, they come and they go, observing your body sensations for a while and then letting go of any observation and focus. So,you shift from focus to non focus. It`s like playing with a ball-catch and let go,catch and let go.At some point the game would end on it`s own. There will be lulls of emptiness. Not even awareness..Not even breathing.
Look for the space between the thoughts.Look for the space between the breaths. In this emptiness resides the I Am,which is beyond all thoughts. At first, the lulls will be short and you may not remember them because they will be empty. As time goes on the lulls of emptiness will get longer and longer ,if you practice regularly,There will be nothing to remember other than a deep silence. If you continue practicing silence would become the regular condition of your mind and you will only think when thinking is required. This is known as attaining mastery of the mind,or stopping the internal dialogue. It is also known to be blissful. The musical note A and sound wave LA is dedicated to Brow chakra (Third Eye) Ajna.
The Om (Aum) symbol is a sacred syllable representing Brahman, the impersonal Absolute — omnipotent, omnipresent, and the source of all manifest existence.
By sound and form, AUM symbolizes the infinite Brahman (ultimate reality) and the entire universe.
A stands for Creation
U stands for Preservation
M stands for Destruction or dissolution

Suggestion of Meditation technique on Om:
Retire to a quite place, sit down, close your eyes and completely relax your muscles and nerves. Concentrate on the space between your eyebrows and quieten and silence the conscious mind. Begin to repeat “Om” mentally with music while associating the ideas of infinity, eternity, immortality, etc. You must repeat Om with the feeling that you are the infinite and all-pervading.
The difference in spelling ["Om" or "Aum"] is merely a matter of transliteration.

I’ve been using just the regular breathing and clearing your mind, plus Zen and Mahasati. Do you have any others? I’d like to try something new.

Many of you are having problems especially during these hard economic times. The stress and pressure that builds up in the mind and body prevents one from moving forward. My advice to you is to make sure that you stay healthy. You may not have control over the economy or what is the government is doing, but you do have control over taking care of your health. It is within your control to eat healthy, get adequate sleep and workout. There have been many times when we thought things were going to fall apart because of circumstances beyond our control. We then put our energy into those things we had some say over and slowly, we turned it around. Working out not only helps the body, but it gives the mind a break from worry so that you make room for more productive thoughts.
